The Timeless guide

Korean Skincare Routine Steps, In the Right Order

The order matters as much as the products: thin, watery layers first, rich creams last. Apply each one while skin is still slightly damp and give it thirty seconds to settle before the next. Done in the right order, even a short routine outperforms an expensive one layered wrong.

Step 1 · Cleanser

Everything after this step only works if skin is clean. At night, cleanse twice when you wore sunscreen or makeup — an oil-based cleanser first, then a gentle foaming one. In the morning, a quick rinse with lukewarm water is enough.

Step 2 · Toner

Korean toners hydrate rather than strip. Press a few drops into skin that is still slightly damp — this rebalances pH after cleansing and helps every layer after it absorb better.

Step 3 · Serum

Serums are thin and water-light, so they go on before anything creamy. Choose by concern: hyaluronic acid for dehydration, vitamin C or niacinamide for dullness and dark spots, snail for repair.

Step 4 · Ampoule

Think of an ampoule as a serum turned up to full strength. Two or three drops are enough, and this is the layer to rotate with the seasons or your skin's mood — brightening one month, firming the next.

Step 5 · Eye cream

The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the body and shows age first. Tap — never rub — with your ring finger, morning and night.

Step 6 · Moisturizer

Cream is the lid that seals every layer underneath. Go lighter in humid summer months and richer in winter, and always bring it down the neck and onto the chest.

Step 7 · Sunscreen (mornings)

Most visible aging comes from sun exposure, so SPF is the one step that protects everything else you just applied. Every morning, even when it is cloudy, even indoors near windows. A glow balm stick makes reapplying easy over makeup.

Where do face masks fit in?

Sheet masks slot in after toner, two or three evenings a week — leave on fifteen to twenty minutes, then continue with serum and cream. On mask nights you can skip the ampoule; the mask is doing that job.
